5 Habits That Actually Stick

Most habit advice fails because it assumes unlimited willpower. A better approach is to reduce friction and attach the new behavior to something that already happens every day.

1. Pick one keystone habit

Choose a behavior that makes other good choices easier — a ten-minute walk after lunch, or protein at breakfast. One is enough for the first month.

2. Shrink it until it is almost too easy

Two minutes of stretching beats a skipped thirty-minute session. Consistency builds the identity; intensity can come later.

3. Design the environment

Put the shoes by the door. Keep the snacks out of sight. Make the default choice the one you want.

4. Track simply

A calendar checkmark is enough. Tracking should take seconds, not become a second job.

5. Plan for the missed day

Missing once is an accident; missing twice is the start of a new pattern. Decide in advance: “If I miss, I do the two-minute version the next day.”
